Vi Goggles (2013)
Vi goggles were my first attempt at making a costume accessory that looked and acted like a functioning product. The frame is cast using semi-rigid urethane resin coated with gold powder. It is then sanded and support elements are added. Foam padding is cast using flexible polyurethane foam. The leather bridges, which connect the two frames, were designed in Illustrator and laser cut. Metal screws and nuts are used to emphasize the stylistic aesthetic of the goggles.
These goggles have evolved immensely from the first prototype all the way to the current product. After each pair is made, more is learned, improving the process furthermore. Goggle design and fabrication has become such an enjoyable experience that it may lead to more potential designs in the future.
